Today, God Wants to Bless Your Finances
The Old Testament embraces the plan of tithing
Paying tithes is a very ancient practice. At his return from his expedition against Chedorlaomer, Abraham gave tithes of all the booty taken from the enemy to Melchizedek, king of Salem (Genesis 14:20). Jacob reflected a quality of his grandfather’s piety when he vowed to the Lord the tithe of all the substance he might acquire in Mesopotamia (Genesis 28:22) Under the Law, Moses ordained the tithe of the land to be holy unto the Lord (Leviticus 27:30, 31, 32).
The New Testament supports the idea of tithing
Can any student of the Word of God fail to observe that life under Grace raised standards rather than lowered them? The utterance of the Pharisee, (Luke 18:12) that he gave tithes of all that he possessed, is evidence that the people of the New Testament days were thoroughly acquainted with the idea of tithing. The concept is further disclosed in the New Testament statement that every man’s participation in giving is to be, “As God has prospered him.” Paul teaches in First Corinthians 9:14 that the Lord has ordained that those who preach the Gospel should live by the Gospel. Jesus related in Luke 16:11 that the true riches of the Kingdom cannot be trusted to those who are unfaithful in accounting for human possessions. The custom of tithing was thoroughly established in the Christian community.
God desires to bless the Hopewell congregation with a revival of financial blessing (Malachi 3:10-11). Prove God today as He challenges us to do! Begin tithing if you’re not and continue tithing if you are; it is God’s blessing plan. We must teach our children and our youth the principle of tithing as well. As a child, I tithed on an allowance of .25 cents a week. God has certainly blessed me and my family through the years for being faithful in tithing and offerings.
This is the time, this is the place, and we are the people God is pouring His blessings on!
