Powerful Principles for Living
(Principles= Eternal truths which can’t be altered)
HCOG is a ‘Principle Driven Church”. A church sharing the WHOLE gospel to the WHOLE person, for the WHOLE world. In 2010 we are going to focus on Discipleship with our focus scripture being: Then said Jesus unto his disciples, Matt. 16:24 “If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.” In other words, we will focus on laying down something, taking up something, and living out something.
Let’s look at some of the guiding principles we find to live by in the Word of God:
1. God responds to us when we 1) call upon His name, 2) seek His face 3) listen to His voice (II Chronicles 7:14)
2. God and one person is a majority (Exodus 7 – 12—Story of Moses’ leadership)
3. When there seems to be no solution, God being a creative God is able to create a solution and speak it into existence (Exodus 15,16—In the wilderness, manna, meat, clothing all provided)
4. Giving is living and denying is dying (Widow of Zaraphath, Sea of Galilee vs. Dead Sea; Story of the Rich Young Ruler)
5. There’s peace in the midst of the storm for God’s people
26Only in the land of Goshen, where the sons of Israel were, there was no hail. (Exodus 9:26)
6. God is the source of all good and no one can oppose Him
14"For this time I will send all My plagues on you and your servants and your people, so that you may know that there is no one like Me in all the earth. (Exodus 9:14)
7. The Lord doesn’t always lead us to do the obvious
Exodus 13:17 When Pharaoh let the people go, God did not lead them on the road through the Philistine country, though that was shorter. For God said, "If they face war, they might change their minds and return to Egypt." (Exodus 13:17)
8. Leaders don’t respond to fear tactics when God is directing
13But Moses said to the people, "Do not fear! Stand by and see the salvation of the LORD which He will accomplish for you today; for the Egyptians whom you have seen today, you will never see them again forever. (Exodus 14:13)
9. The same God who led Israel to the Promise Land is the same God who is leading us today
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. (Hebrews 13:8)
10. God always has a plan with a time table
(Book of Exodus)
11. Be careful not grumble and complain against God’s leaders
24And the people murmured against Moses, saying, What shall we drink? 25Then he cried out to the LORD, and the LORD showed him a tree; and he threw it into the waters, and the waters became sweet There He made for them a statute and regulation, and there He tested them. (Exodus 15:24-25)
12. Uphold a righteous leader’s arms and God will give you the victory
11And it came to pass, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed: and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed.
12But Moses hands were heavy; and they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat thereon; and Aaron and Hur stayed up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun. (Ex. 17:10-13)
13. Rebellion is never tolerated by God
20Behold, I send an Angel before thee, to keep thee in the way, and to bring thee into the place which I have prepared.
21Beware of him, and obey his voice, provoke him not; for he will not pardon your transgressions: for my name is in him. (Exodus 23:20-21)
14. Never join in an alliance or association where evil is present
12"Watch yourself that you make no covenant with the inhabitants of the land into which you are going, or it will become a snare in your midst.
(Exodus 34:12 )
15. God always wants our best
4'Now if the household is too small for a lamb, then he and his neighbor nearest to his house are to take one according to the number of persons in them; according to what each man should eat, you are to divide the lamb.
(Exodus 12:4-5) “The Golden Rule”
16. Stay ready to move when God gives the order
11'Now you shall eat it in this manner: with your loins girded, your sandals on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and you shall eat it in haste--it is the LORD'S Passover. (Exodus 12:11)
17. Sometimes God gives us the same marching orders He gave the Israelites on their way to the Promised Land 1) turn back 2) stand still 3) move on (Exodus 14:2-15)
18. Blessings come down when praises go up
34Then the cloud covered the tent of meeting, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle. (Exodus 40:34)
19. Miracles come to those who position themselves with God
19The angel of God, who had been going before the camp of Israel, moved and went behind them; and the pillar of cloud moved from before them and stood behind them. (Exodus 14:19) (Noah, Gideon, Samson, etc)
20. Your countenance changes when you’ve been with the Lord
29It came about when Moses was coming down from Mount Sinai (and the two tablets of the testimony were in Moses' hand as he was coming down from the mountain), that Moses did not know that the skin of his face shone because of his speaking with Him. (Exodus 34:29)
